Stay Home or Go Away? Where is the Right College for You

Deciding where to go for the next 4 years of your life can be difficult to plan out.  Staying at home may be tempting, Mom’s there to do the cleaning, cooking, and laundry, what could be better? However, here are a few reasons to venture out of home and experience a whole new world:

Test your Independence

When you go away to college, you will have a whole new set of responsibilities that you didn’t have before. It will, literally be like you are living on your own. Mom won’t be there to help you with the laundry or the cleaning or cooking it is all on you. Try going away to college to see what it is like to live independently. You will have to do it sooner or later!

– Broaden your Horizons

The first month may be extremely difficult because you will be going through a lot of changes and your normal support system of friends and family aren’t going to be as close as they once were. However, you can gain something more out of this experience. For example, going to a new city, meeting new people, and exploring a new town may all be interesting enough to discover when you get to college!

– Try New Things

Even though staying at home for college may be appealing to you, now is the time to try new things and make mistakes. It never hurts to try something new. You can gain a new perception and experience to add to your knowledge.

– “There’s no Place like Home”

The phrase is true, and if it turns out that you don’t like being away from home, there is always the option to transfer to a college better suited for you. But the point here is to try and be away from home and if all else fails, you can always go back! Or maybe, you might just find a second home on a college campus.

At the end of the day, the point is that this is the time for you to make mistakes, and experience the world from a new perspective. If it turns out you want to go back to your local hometown college, there is always the option to transfer. This way at least you have tried and experienced the alternative and know what it is like and that it was not meant for you. Go out, explore, and discover, there is a whole world waiting to be seen by you. Going away to college may be the way you get to uncover it.
