Is Sleep Your Priority? It Should Be!

Most students are so busy stressing out about tests, college applications, financial aid applications, and on top of that their massive load of school work, that they forget to sleep! Sleep is a very important thing to make a priority since it is how we function daily. With more sleep, we are likely to do better at our daily activities and routines. Here are some benefits of adding sleep into your days:

1. Helps You Think Clearly

With more sleep, you will be able to see that certain decisions are easier to make and certain tasks take less time out of your day when you have had that full 8 hours of sleep. For example, when you are taking an exam with the full 8 hours of sleep, certain questions may seem easier because you will have remembered reading about it the night before. Whereas without sleep, thinking and remembering certain things take longer and more effort.

2. Sharpens Focus, Attention, and Enhances Creativity

By sleeping the full 8 hours a night, you will be able to focus more and pay more attention to detail on certain tasks. For example, if you are part of a dance organization at school it will become easier for you to think up choreography moves and teach the routine to the rest of the dancers. Not to mention, you will be in a more forgiving mood if people do not get the steps right away.

3. You will be in a Good Mood All Day

The phrase goes “When you wake up feeling good, your day turns out to be good.” And it couldn’t be any more true. Sleep helps us wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day and more likely to be in a better mood socially and in the classroom. For example, students would be more likely to participate in class or be more social during break times such as lunch.

4. Lowers Stress

School can be very stressful, we know, but the best way to deal with all that stress is to sleep! Sleep can help the body naturally reduce stress and it makes stress easier to deal with. Since a lack of sleep may cause you to be impatient and easily agitated, sleep can help you reduce those two characteristics and put you in a better mood throughout the day.

These are only a few of the many reasons that sleep is important for not just students but to everyone. It may not seem like much, but it works wonders on people’s mood and lifestyle. Try it – what do you have to lose from!
