Our “GoEnnounce Yourself” Scholarship, sponsored by Upromise, awards one student $500 each month! This award goes to a student who’s doing a great job showcasing who he/she is, by sharing school related e-nnouncement updates with Followers on their GoEnnounce Student Page. We are happy to e-nnounce our July winner…Laura McDonald!
This senior at Lusher Charter School keeps quite the rigorous academic schedule and has already completed many honors and AP courses. This year she is taking it one step further by dual enrolling and taking two college courses at Tulane University! Not just passionate about her academics, she is also very involved with organizations at her school and within the community. Her extracurricular activities include Garden Club, 4-H Club (where she has won many awards), Trinity Episcopal Church Youth Group, and Culture Club. She’s already been an officer in most of the clubs she participates in and this year she was elected to be president of her school’s National Honor Society! Even with everything she’s involved in, she’s focused on her future goals to graduate from a four year university and study abroad. We have no doubt she’ll accomplish this!
Throughout the month of July, she has shared updates on her Student Page highlighting her volunteer and community service work. During this summer she earned over 60 volunteer hours by working in volunteer services and wound care at Touro Hospital in New Orleans. This has been a great experience for her because it gave her real world experience in the health care industry (a career path she’s been considering). Laura has also been hard at work on a service organization that she has been developing for over two years, Lions and Cubs. This organization’s mission is for high school students to mentor elementary school students in Project Pride (4 school rules), nutrition, service, anti-bullying, fitness, and study skills. With the help of other 4-H members, Laura, has developed lesson plans and teaching methods that all Lions and Cubs members will use. Her involvement in all of these community service projects definitely display a future for helping others. She capped off the month of July by traveling to Scotland and England – a trip she has been planning and fundraising for over a year. How impressive!
Keep on e-nnouncing, Laura, we’re excited to see your hard work paying off! Learn more about Laura and keep up with her amazing achievements here.
