Abroad101 Student of the Week #0091 – Danielle Wray

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 12.03.55 PMWe are very excited to announce this week’s Abroad101 Student of the Week, Danielle Wray! Danielle is currently in her senior year at the University of Michigan-Flint. Danielle is a motivated student who is driven by her own life experiences that inspire her to want to help others. Danielle has managed to work two jobs while also devoting herself to Michigan’s Social Work Program. Following her graduation next year, Danielle plans to work towards a Master’s Degree in Psychology to pursue a career as a Dialectical Behavior Therapist. This specific type of therapy stems from Buddhist ideology, which is something that Danielle has a passion for and yearns to learn more about.

Danielle has recently been accepted to Greenheart Travel‘s teach abroad program in Thailand this July. She will be living with a host family and volunteering to help the family learn English as a part of the program’s initiative. Since Danielle plans to work in the field of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, studying abroad in Thailand will provide her with invaluable experiences outside of the classroom, especially because Buddhism is a main aspect of Thai culture. Since she has not yet had the opportunity to travel outside of the United States, Danielle is so excited that she has already reached out to her program manager and written a letter to her host family (in both Thai and English)! She also plans to keep a travel blog that will include lots of pictures from her trip, and would love to send out postcards with updates of her trip to anyone who is interested. While Danielle has been fundraising for her trip and has already raised some on her own, she would greatly appreciate any donations to help her cover the program fees and traveling expenses to make it from Michigan to Thailand. To check out Danielle’s Mission and donate to her cause, click here!
