A huge congratulations goes out to our Abroad101 Student of the Week, Hannah Hall! Hannah is currently a sophomore at Azusa Pacific University and is studying communications and humanities in the Honors College with a communications emphasis in media. Hannah was a GoEnnounce student blogger last spring and is now a guest on “The Couch,” a blog started at her school by some friends in the Honors College. Hannah is an Honors College mentor for freshman mentees, has been honored on the CLAS Dean’s list from Fall ’14 to Spring ’15, has received a Dean’s List academic scholarship, and is a member of My Third Place on campus. Following her graduation, Hannah plans to work in children’s media production based on her belief of the importance of the strong influence that media has on young children. Hannah would love to work with Adventures in Odyssey, write children’s literature, or even become a teacher.
Consistent with her ardent desire to see the world and love for traveling, Hannah is fundraising to study abroad in Oxford, England and will be attending Wycliffe College at Oxford University. Despite the prestige and selectiveness of the program, Hannah was one of 20 students accepted and chosen to gain this once in a lifetime educational experience. Hannah will have two tutorials and a British culture course in which she will be able to choose any topic she desires to study. In Hannah’s primary tutorial, Britain at the Movies: Film and National Identity since 1914, she will be studying the history of film on an individual, societal, and global scale. Hannah will also be able to learn the way in which literature, mass media, and radio affects children’s upbringings and their progressive influence on their surrounding cultures. Hannah looks forward to this tutorial and believes it will deepen her understanding of media and will prepare her to be a morally responsible adult. While Hannah will be working all summer teaching swimming lessons to cover food and clothing costs in England, she needs additional help with tuition, housing, program costs, and plane tickets to England.
