A huge congratulations goes out to our Abroad101 Student of the week, Leia Green! Leia is a sophomore at Middle Tennessee State University earning a major in Spanish and a minor in German. With a genuine love language and diverse cultures, Leia has already studied Spanish, German, and French and plans to continue her language education going forward. A hardworking and devoted student, Leia is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship and has earned her position on the Dean’s List. While excelling academically is one of Leia’s top priorities, she has an inherent and intrinsic love for learning and is always seeking to discover new aspects of herself and her surroundings. Her interest in diverse languages has prompted her motivation to study abroad and take advantage of the opportunity to immerse herself in an entirely new culture. Leia has been granted the opportunity to pursue her love of learning in Colombia for the upcoming fall semester.

During Leia’s time abroad, she will be working with the International Studies Abroad company in Barranquilla, Colombia. She will be taking classes at Universidad del Norte, University of the North, where she will take classes entirely in Spanish with native Colombian students. At the university, Leia will learn how to teach English as a foreign language, Latin American history and culture, and Spanish composition. Leia will will be living with a Colombian family during her time abroad in order to gain the authentic experience of Colombian culture. Leia has dreamed of living in South America since she can remember but unfortunately has not yet had the opportunity to leave the country. Leia has had a love for the Spanish language since the 8th grade and is thrilled that her time abroad will provide her with the invaluable experience of living in a Spanish speaking country. Her excitement has prompted her to apply to scholarships, fundraise, and she has even chosen to work two jobs to fund for her trip. While Leia has worked tirelessly and has had some success, she still needs help attaining her fundraising goal to cover food and airfare costs. During her time in Barranquilla, Leia promises to keep an updated blog and share her experiences. Take a moment to check out her Mission and help her achieve this dream!
