Abroad101 Student of the Week #0080 – Linda Kessler

Screen Shot 2016-02-23 at 9.13.43 AMA huge congrats goes to our 80th Abroad101 Student of the Week…Linda Kessler! Linda is a junior at the University of North Texas, earning a major in journalism with a minor in music. At her university she is a part of the Society of Professional Journalists and TRiO Student Support Services. She has also been recognized academically on the Dean’s List and volunteers with Denton’s United Through Hope every Sunday in the community. Her determination and hard work is shown in her two part time jobs and the scholarship awards she has achieved, which combined have resulted in going through college debt free so far! Her passion for writing is exemplified through her involvement in being a copy editor for the North Texas Daily as well as a freelance copy editor for the Denton Record-Chronicle.  She has also scored an internship with the UNT Press as an editorial assistant, which will not doubt help with her future aspiration to one day work for a large publishing house, such as the Penguin Random House. Even with everything that Linda has going on she has always had a desire to study abroad and it looks like this dream is becoming a reality this upcoming summer in London!

Linda has been offered the opportunity to study abroad in London for 5 weeks through the Mayborn School of Journalism at her university. During this time she will able to be immersed in a this new culture, which she hopes will enrich her culturally and academically. The cost of this amazing experience is expensive totaling to over $6,700, just for the program itself! In addition to the program cost Linda needs to find a way to pay  for the flight, food, and any other day to day expenses. The impressive work ethic Linda puts forth into her education and future leaves us with no doubts that she deserves this once in a lifetime experience abroad. Help Linda reach this goal and become one step closer to making this educational trip abroad a reality! Visit Linda’s Mission here.
