Abroad101 Student of the Week #0075 – Spenser Turley

Screen Shot 2016-01-15 at 12.31.18 PMA huge congratulations goes to our Abroad101 Student of the Week, Spenser Turley! Spenser is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He is a communications major who is an active member of the ultimate frisbee team, an Eagle Scout and has accured over 200 volunteer hours. Spenser is currently looking for an opportunity to work in a local news or radio station but upon graduation wants to become a photojournalist or a translator.  Spenser really believes that with his future career aspirations, traveling the world is an important experience he needs to achieve and soon, he will hopefully be doing just that!

Spenser is planning to study abroad in Nagoya, Japan beginning this fall through the spring of 2017! During this time he is hoping to study at Nagoya University of foreign studies. Since Spenser wants to be a translator traveling to Japan gives him the chance to further his language studies, while giving him an invaluable opportunity to experience and immerse himself in another culture! One of the great benefits of this program is that Spenser is able to apply scholarships that he has earned at the University of Tennessee to this program in Japan! Even with the help of his scholarship money, studying abroad for this length of time in Japan is expensive and Spenser is looking for a little more help to get there! He has created a fundraising Mission to cover the remaining costs of his this educational trip abroad such as travel, international insurance, tuition, housing, as well as a passport! Check out Spenser’s Mission here and help this student get to Japan and gain a life changing experience!

The Abroad101 Student of the Week initiative awards a student who created a Mission for a study abroad program on GoEnnounce with a donation to their fundraiser. Learn more about this partnership from Abroad101 CEO Mark Shay and GoEnnounce co-founder Melissa Davis here.
