The Abroad101 Student of the Week goes to Mayah El-Dehaibi, a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh! Mayah is an elementary education major who wants to become a classroom teacher in an urban public school. In her free time she babysits in her area, as well as having a work-study job at Pitt’s America Reads Chapter, where she tutors public school students in literacy. Not only is Mayah extremely interested in elementary education but doing research around public education fascinates her!
Mayah has recently been offered the chance to study abroad in Florence Italy with the University of Pittsburgh, Childhood Education Program. She will be earning two credits towards her degree taking, Language and Literature for the Young Child and Teaching Young English Language Learners. The duration of this program is for the entire month of May, where she will be immersed in an intensive classroom observation of urban Italian public classrooms. Mayah has been saving up for this experience for a year and has created a fundraising Mission to cover the rest of her expenses and avoid going into debt. The funds raised will go towards tuition, textbooks, classroom materials, airfare and meals while she’s abroad! Check out Mayah’s fundraising Mission here!
The Abroad101 Student of the Week initiative awards a student who created a Mission for a study abroad program on GoEnnounce with a donation to their fundraiser. Learn more about this partnership from Abroad101 CEO Mark Shay and GoEnnounce co-founder Melissa Davis here.
Stay tuned for our next Abroad101 Student of the Week!
