Abroad101 Student of the Week #0063 – Olivia Start

Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 6.01.59 PMOur 63rd Abroad101 Student of the Week is Olivia Start, a senior from Westminster University. She is majoring in psychology with a minor in public health and will be graduating next year cum laude! In addition to this achievement Olivia has been on the dean’s list every semester from the fall of 2013 until now, wow what an academic super star! On top of her academic achievements, Olivia has worked hard to pay for her education earning $17,000 a year for various academic scholarships at Westminster College  While attending college she is also working three jobs which include Promise South Salt Lake an after school program for Utah International Charter School, Uptown Cheapskate a thrift store, and Student Health Services on campus which allows her to give to the community which has supported her. Another one of Olivia’s goals is to become fluent in Spanish, which has fueled her desire to spend a semester abroad in Spain!

Olivia has recently been accepted to to travel with International Studies Abroad to Málaga, Spain. During her time in Spain she will be studying at the Universidad de Málaga, where she will be enrolled in language intensive courses (Spanish, of course) as well as other courses to help meet her graduation requirements. To help with the cost of this experience abroad, Olivia is currently fundraising for half the cost of her tuition, room and board, and books. All while, she is striving to come up with the other half through working three jobs and attempting to earn more scholarship money! Olivia’s future endeavors are to work with a humanitarian program such as Jesuit Volunteer Corps, AmeriCorps, or Peace Corps. We have no doubt that this experience abroad will only help her reach this ultimate goal!  She has such a great desire in helping those around her, so we want to help her!
