Our Abroad101 Student of the Week award goes to Morgan Russell a junior from the University of Pittsburgh, who is working towards a major in anthropology and minor in Spanish. After attending college she already has big plans to attend Mercyhurst University to obtain a master’s degree in anthropology, with a concentration in archaeology. Plus, she has dreams of traveling to Belize to an archeological field school before her studies are up and work as a bioarchaeologist at pre-Columbian archaeological sites in Central or South America. Along with her studies Morgan is a literacy tutor where she works one on one with children who need guidance and focused attention.
Morgan’s studies have been centered quite a bit around Latin America and most specifically, Cuba, which has left her longing to experience this country for herself! To accomplish this task she will be working with the Pitt in Cuba program that will allow her to take classes at La Universidad de La Habana. While at the La Universidad de La Habana the areas of focus will include cultural studies, film studies, history, Spanish language and literature, wow what a variety! The duration of the program will last from May to late June in the upcoming summer, which will give her access to be fully immersed in the culture and history of Cuba. Her determination to raise the funds to cover costs such as a deposit, administrative fee and visa fee show her hunger to be able to expand her base of knowledge of this country, as well as fulfilling her dream of living in a Latin American country. So head on over to her Mission and support Morgan in growing more knowledgable and well rounded as a person and student!
