Congratulations to our 120th Abroad 101 Student of the week Alayne Chipman! Alayne is currently a sophomore at the University of Idaho and she is double majoring in architecture and interior design. She has an impressive 4.0 GPA and she has received several honors, awards and distinctions like the Bismarck H. Turner Trust Recipient. Along with being a 4.0 student and pursuing a double major, Alayne is also very involved in extracurricular activities and in volunteer work, she plays tennis, is part of the orchestra club, and likes to go to church for instance. Alayne’s long term goal is to join a preservation society and to renovate and restore old homes. She would also like to work with the building industry and make them more eco-friendly. But as of right now, Alayne has the unique opportunity to go study abroad at Victoria University of Wellington, in New Zealand for the Fall 2017.
Alayne has always wanted to study in a foreign country, therefore, to be able to go to New Zealand is like a dream coming true for her. This experience will not only help her with her education, but it will also allow her to being immersed in a new and unknown culture. As a designer, Alayne believes that it is very important to be able to relate to people from all over the world, and to experience new cultures and ways of life. Through this experience, she believes that she will open her mind and understand differences between people better. She is looking forward to getting out of her comfort zone and exploring new things while continuing to follow her passion in the design fields.
But to Study Abroad can get very expensive, that’s why Alayne started a fundraising Mission. She is currently applying for scholarships and she plans on working full time this summer and doing additional tasks in order to raise funds for her study abroad, but she still needs financial help to cover all her expenses. She says that she will use the money that she raises to pay for her overall fee of $14,000. This is an all encompassing expense that covers her tuition and student fees, international health insurance, and on-site support from the program.
We wish Alayne all the best in New Zealand and hope that she will have a life changing experience there!
