Abroad101 Student of the Week #0119 – Sashalee Rashford

Congratulations to our 119th Abroad 101 Student of the week winner, Sashalee Rashford! Sashalee is currently studying Music Industry at Ramapo College of New Jersey and she is working towards receiving her Business Essentials Certificate. She is a brilliant student with a 3.1 GPA, she was on the Dean’s list during her senior year and she is also an active member of several clubs and societies. Her plan is to graduate in August 2017, but before that, Sashalee will be travelling to Asia for the summer, as she has been accepted to a Study Abroad program in Seoul, South Korea. The program that she will be attending is organized through ISA (International Studies Abroad) and during her trip, she will be taking two classes, one class will allow her to learn some of the Korean language, and in the other class she will learn about Media and Culture in Korea and how it influences daily living in the country.

Sashalee believes that as a music business major, it will be helpful for her future to learn about the industries around the world and how they work differently in those specific areas.  She has always been interested in Korea and the country’s culture and during her Fall semester one of her senior project was to research the history of the music industry in Korea. She has also started to self teach herself the basics of the Korean language and hope to be able to practice and improve her skills during her Study Abroad.

But to Study Abroad can get very expensive, that’s why Sashalee started a fundraising Mission. She will use the money that she raises to pay for the cost of the trip that isn’t included in the program price like the cost of living, the meals and other day to day activities that she’ll be doing. She has been saving up and has received scholarship but it still isn’t enough to cover the total cost of the program.

We wish Sashalee all the best in South Korea and hope that she will have a life changing experience there!
