A HUGE congratulations goes to our 114th Abroad101 Student of the Week winner, Tiffany Rogers! Tiffany graduated in May 2016 from UGA with a Bachelor Degree in social work. She is currently pursuing her Master Degree in Social Work with a concentration in Community Empowerment and Program Development at the University of Georgia. Throughout her studies, Tiffany has been rewarded with numerous honors, she was on the Dean’s List her first, second and third year of college, and made it to the President’s List during her 4th year. Along with those honors, she also succeeded in accomplishing amazing volunteer work, extracurricular activities, and she was an involved member of several clubs and societies. Nevertheless, her busy schedule didn’t stop her to get an impressive 3.9 GPA. Tiffany is driven by the purpose of making a positive difference in this world. She wants to help people, inspire them, she wants to have an impact and leave a legacy, she wants to be remembered as the one that made a positive difference. Another thing that she really enjoys in life, is the combination of wine, chocolate and coffee (but who doesn’t!)
Tiffany’s next exciting adventure is to go Study Abroad in Northern Ireland. This trip will be her first time ever experiencing international education and she is very looking forward to learning as much as she can through this unique experience. The program that she will be attending emphasis on learning the historical roots of the three-decade long conflict called the Troubles. Some of Tiffany’s educational goals for this trip are to learn and apply new models of conflict resolution and crisis intervention. To develop self-awareness through community participation, to learn about service opportunities within a global community with a diverse group of volunteers. To develop an understanding of the impact of economic injustice, oppression and discrimination in Northern Ireland. She also plans on staying a few more days in Europe after her Study Abroad program and she will visit the United Kingdom’s and its historic sites, discover their culture, food and traditions. Tiffany likes to plan ahead of time and therefore, she will most likely be working as a master’s practicing social worker when she comes back from her trip. Her long term goal is to be working with community agencies that work to help strengthen communities.
However, to study abroad can get pretty expensive, and that is why Tiffany started her fundraising Mission. She saved up some funds but as she has been a dedicated student for the past five years of her education, she does need some financial help in order to make her dream happen.
We wish Tiffany all the best in Northern Ireland and hope that she will have a life changing experience there!
