A huge “congratulations!” goes out to our Abroad101 Student of the Week, Audrey Duggan! Audrey is currently a junior at University of Missouri-Columbia, and is an international studies major. Audrey’s perseverance and diligent work ethic is demonstrated by her academic success, having received a 4.0 GPA two semesters in a row. She currently has three semesters left in her undergraduate program, in which she is focusing on French and Russian history, culture, and language. Two of those semesters will be spent studying abroad in Paris, France. After graduation, she hopes that her studies will prepare her to volunteer with the Peace Corps in Ukraine, where she will be able to continue to learn about Eastern Europe (including the Ukrainian and Russian languages) while also having the opportunity to help people.
As a part of her upcoming study abroad program, she will be studying French language and liberal arts at Institut Catholique de Paris. Though an understanding of French culture and language may not directly help with life in Ukraine, the experience of living in another country and having to adapt to their language and culture will have inherent benefits for Audrey’s future goals. Since the vast majority of funding for this trip will come from Audrey’s personal savings and private loans, she would greatly appreciate any sized donations to reduce the financial burden of her abroad studies.
