Did you just graduate from college this spring? Congrats! Post-college life is a thrilling time that can also be a little bit terrifying. You might feel like you’ve been thrown out into the real world without anyone to help you. And searching for a job can be a tough process to go through, so we have five tips for you to help make it a little easier!
1. Don’t Be Afraid of Rejection
While you may have been top dog at your school, in the post-college life, you’ll most likely have to face some rejection. Don’t let it get to you. Have some faith that your skills and hard work will lead you to the right opportunity, and keep on working to find the job that’s right fit. Your tenacity and positivity will pay off.
2. Use Your College’s Career Center
It’s there for a reason. Your college may have some opportunities, or at least know of some connections or alumni in your field who could lead you in the right direction. Stay in touch with the counselors there and find out if they have a job board to inform you of leads.
3. Get on LinkedIn
Sure, you’re on Facebook and Twitter, but LinkedIn is where it’s at if you need to find a job. Try to scout out some connections to companies that you’re interested in. Whenever you see a listing that interests you, check back in with LinkedIn to see if you know anyone at the company, or if a connection can refer you.
4. Network. Network. Network.
Meet as many people as you can! It’s much easier to find a job when you know people who can refer you. Go to meet up events, alumni events, and any networking opportunity in your area. You’d be surprised at who could be there!
5. Keep applying.
Schedule at least an hour or two of your morning to scour the web for listings each day. If something sounds interesting to you—apply! It might seem obvious, but the more opportunities you apply for, the more chances you’ll have to be considered for a role. Stick with it and stay on top of it; you’ll make it happen.
