E-nnouncing Our November Upromise Scholarship Winner

image1Our “GoEnnounce Yourself” Scholarship, sponsored by Upromise, awards one student $500 each month! This award goes to a student who’s doing a great job showcasing who he/she is, by sharing school related e-nnouncement updates with Followers on their GoEnnounce Student Page. Our “GoEnnounce Yourself” Scholarship recipient provided by Upromise for the month of November is…Gulshan Ashaque!

A sophomore at Queens High School for the Sciences at York, Gulshan spreads her time between her studies and many organizations that she is involved with. Her drive to succeed is evident through the abundance of awards she has received: Excellence in Public Speaking and Orating (2015), Excellence in Declamations and Seminars (2015), National Honor Student with Distinction (2015), Girl’s Badminton Team leader Badge (2015), Public Declamation (2015), Science Olympiad Winner for Astronomy (2015), Science Olympiad Winner for Anatomy (2015), and Winning Selection for Four Pieces for Libellus (2015).  That’s just from this year! Gulshan also actively participates in STEM related extracurriculars, being a competitor at Science Olympiad and a member of New York’s STEMinism club. Being involved in these activities definitely put her on the right track to achieving her dream of becoming the head director of neurosurgeons (wow!). Along with this impressive aspiration, Gulshan, plans to one day contribute to a revolutionary change in healthcare services, making it more easily accessible throughout the world. She’s had these goals in mind since she first became enthralled by neurology and anatomy and aims to achieve them by completing an MBA in Healthcare Management.

Throughout November, Gulshan kept us up-to-date with her e-nnouncements, which highlighted her academic and extracurricular progress. In early November, she e-nnounced she began working with some other students to create a NextGenVest chapter at her school.  This idea was sparked from her attendance of the NextGen conference in NYC where she got to hear the former president of Cinnabon speak! This event had such an impact on her that she even took diligent notes, which you can see right on her Student Page. Getting in the holiday spirit of giving,  Gulshan also spent some time volunteering, where she helped decorate and stage a donation box for the Ashley Wade Toy Drive, which benefits chronically ill children. If it doesn’t seem like she’s been busy enough, what impressed us the most about Gulshan in November, was the goal she set for herself to complete a 50,000 word book! Not only did she reach this goal, sharing her progress on her Student Page along the way but she also has submitted it to NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo is an annual (November) novel writing project that brings together professional and amateur writers from all over the world. We’re so impressed by this amazing accomplishment! Keep up the fantastic work, Gulshan!
