This weeks Abroad101 Student of the Week is Janet Au from California State University of Fresno. Janet is a junior who’s majoring in community health and her favorite subject is health sciences. She is also the first in her family to attend college. Way to go Janet! On top of this awesome accomplishment, Janet is a member of the Phi Alpha Omicron Multicultural Sorority and is in the process of trying to become a volunteer commissioner for Tzu Chi. Tzu Chi is a Buddhist organization that gives free medical service to people in need. This volunteer opportunity will definitely help Janet with her future aspirations to attend medical school, become a family doctor, and travel the world giving medical care to people in need that can’t afford it.

To help her get ahead, Janet was recently accepted to study abroad in the Dominican Republic this summer. While in the DR, she will be learning about global health and doing research on medical practices in third world countries. Although Janet has been saving for this opportunity and applying to scholarships, there are a few more expenses that she needs help with. Check our her fundraising Mission to learn why we think Janet deserves this awesome opportunity abroad!

The Abroad101 Student of the Week initiative awards a student who created a Mission for a study abroad program on GoEnnounce with a donation to their fundraiser. Learn more about this partnership from Abroad101 CEO Mark Shay and GoEnnounce co-founder Melissa Davis here.
