Abroad 101 Student of the Week #0113 – Grace W

Congratulation to  our 113th Abroad101 Student of the Week winner, Grace W! Grace is currently pursuing her master degree in Public Health at Georgia State University, in Atlanta. She is a people person and she really enjoys helping others and to be useful. Even though she always wanted to, Grace never had the chance to study abroad during her undergraduate studies, and she always regretted it. However, she now has the unique chance to go Study Abroad in Brazil with her Master’s program.

One of the reason that motivated her to go study abroad in Brazil is because this country is experiencing a lot of public health challenges, like the virus Zika last year and the rise of the Yellow Fever this year, for instance. As she is majoring in Public Health, Grace truly believes that this experience will be very valuable and rewarding to her and that it will help her pursue her career goal. She knows that as a Public Health major, she needs to be informed and exposed to current public health issues from a global perspective and this trip to the city of Salvador will provide her with the unique chance of gaining academical and professional knowledge . She is aware that health issues affect a lot of people and that it is a global phenomena, therefore, health issues that affect others indirectly affect everybody else too. By getting a global exposure, she believes that she will be able to better serve her community in the long term.

However, to study abroad can get pretty expensive, and that is why Grace started her fundraising Mission. The fees that she will need to pay for include in-class instruction, weekly public health field trips, cross cultural lectures, an applied research project, language instruction and home-stays.

We wish Grace all the best in Brazil and hope that she will have a life changing experience there!
