Congratulations to Hannah Murphy, our 105th Abroad101 Student of the Week winner! Hannah is in her third year at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is majoring in International Languages and Cultures with a concentration in Spanish. At the same time, she is minoring in Education Studies and History. Hannah is a very hard-working, motivated student. She currently has a 3.9 GPA and was on the Dean’s list during her first and second year of college. Despite her already busy life as an outstanding student, she found time to be a resident assistant during her second year of college.
As her field of studies indicates, Hannah is passionate about globalization, learning about new cultures, discovering new countries, places and people. Some of the notable coursework that she studied will help her in the future; these course topics include Spanish literature, postmodernity and globalization and Spanish in the community.
Hannah’s plans for the future are to pursue a Masters degree in the Arts of Teaching, with the goal of becoming a Spanish teacher. For her short-term plan, Hannah will be studying abroad at the University of Granada, located in Spain, for the Fall semester of 2017. She is looking forward to the next step in her educational journey and believes that the study-abroad program will allow her to foster her Spanish skills while also experiencing the rich culture and history of Spain.
Hannah cannot wait to study abroad, to challenge herself and to get out of her comfort zone. Moreover, she knows that this experience will help her fulfill her dream of becoming a Spanish teacher, and will give her the skills and the experience that she desires. However, traveling abroad can be expensive and that is why she started this fundraising Mission.
We wish Hannah all the best in Granada and hope that she will learn and enjoy as much as she can!
