Awesome job, Haley Snead! Haley has been selected as our 104th Abroad101 Student of the Week winner! Haley is a first-year freshman attending the University of Kentucky, but she is accredited as a sophomore. She is very involved at school and can usually be found writing papers, reading books or cheering on her wildcat basketball team. She loves dogs and spending time outdoors with her family and friends. Haley studies psychology and plans to pursue a career in criminal psychology.
Haley is an outstanding student, graduating from her high school with a 4.0 GPA. She currently has an impressive 3.8 GPA at her college and received numerous honors and awards throughout her student career. She received the High School Honor Graduate award and acceptance into the National Honors Society in her 12th grade of high school, and she received the Junior Marshal honor in 11th grade.
In addition to her great grades, she is very involved in clubs and societies. Haley was the parliamentarian of the National Honor Society in 12th grade and she was the Key Club Officier in 12th grade. Last but not least, Haley completed thirty-two hours of volunteer work at two different elementary schools and worked with kindergartners and 2nd to 5th graders.
Haley has been accepted on an International Studies Abroad (ISA) program-sponsored trip through UK, and she will receive a semester of education from the University of Reading in England. She is motivated by the opportunity to experience the British culture and to bring it back home to Kentucky and Virginia. Her studies will prepare her for her future career and by taking the opportunity to study abroad, she will be able to graduate early with a psychology degree.
The donated funds will be used to help pay for her travel expenses from Roanoke to London and the remaining donations will be used for transportation, weekend excursions and other cultural events.
We wish Haley all the best in London and hope that she will learn and enjoy as much as she hopes she will!
