Abroad 101 Student of the Week #0101 – Alyssa White

screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-3-58-14-pmAwesome job, Alyssa White, for being selected as our 101th Abroad101 Student of the Week! Alyssa White is currently a sophomore attending the University of Tennessee and studying to get a degree with a major in speech pathology and audiology and a minor in Spanish. Along with her time spent in college, she is also a server at Copper Cellar and an orientation leader for UT. When she has some free time in her busy schedule, she enjoys reading, spending time with her three younger sisters, learn about history and practice her Spanish. Alyssa has always been a people person and that’s what motivated her to study speech pathology and audiology. Once she’ll graduated from college with her master, her plan is to work as a speech-language pathologist in a hospital with infants that have swallowing and feeding disorders. Besides that, she also plans on becoming a certified lactation consultant to help families. Nevertheless, her last plan, and dream, is to become completely fluent in Spanish, a language that she is fascinated about, and that she believes will help her reach out to more families with her career as a speech pathologist. That last wish is what motivated her decision to study abroad in Bilbao, Spain during the Spring semester of 2017.

After working two jobs and being a dedicated student with a 3.95 GPA, she believes that to study abroad is the next step that she needs to take to help her grow as a person. As you can imagine, this study abroad program in Spain is an amazing opportunity for Alyssa, and she is thrilled to fulfill her dream in only a couple months from now. She believes that the best way to fully learn a language is to fully immerse yourself in it. She also believes that this opportunity will not only expand her language skills but will also give her the chance to discover a new country, a new culture and help her grow as a person by challenging her critical thinking, opening her mind and boost her self-confidence. She’s looking for some financial support to help her pay for her program and make the most out of her unique experience.

We wish Alyssa all the best in Spain and hope that she’ll be able to make all her future plans become reality!
